Saint Genesius was a legendary roman saint from the third century. Few accurate details are known about his life but as the story goes, he was the leader of an actor troupe. At that time Christians were mocked and persecuted, so Genesis planned to put on a performance satirizing Chrtsian rites. While pretending to receive the sacrament of baptism however, Genesius had a conversion on stage, realizing both his own mistake and the glory of God. Rather than mock Christianity, he pronounced it as his faith in front of the entire crowd, and refused to renounce it, even when ordered by the emperor himself. For this, Genesius was beheaded and his remains are said to lie in the cemetery of St Hippolytus. Today, he is venetrated as the patron saint of actors, comics, clowns and victims of torture.
