PLEASE NOTE: IN THE GAMBLING MENTIONED, NO REAL MONEY WAS USED!!!

April 24th, 2026. Students a part of the “Chaplaincy”, also known as Wings of Faith spent their Thursday volunteering at the Local Caledon Seniors Centre for Seniors Appreciation Day, to help the staff run the Casino Themed Event and bring their energy and enthusiasm!

The students started their day off in the Chapel with a  small potluck up until 9:30 AM where said students reviewed the plan for the day. At 10 AM the students started their short walk to the Caledon Centre which is attached to the Seniors Centre. The event featured a variety of casino activities and games, all played with chips which were given for free, no money was actually involved.

One popular attraction was the human slot machine, run by three students. Each student was unable to see each others’ choices, they selected from four fruit options. To play they would have to pay one chip, if all three students matched, the participants would receive their chip back and get one bag of candy they selected, including Maltesers which were a popular selection.

Another highlight was the dice game attraction, where participants would roll

two big dice for the price of one chip, if they rolled a pair they would receive three chips, and if they rolled a lucky seven they would receive five chips, this games one downside is that the it required four refills of chips since people constantly won and could not stop winning.

Additional activities included a card game like HiLo, which was run by two students, as well there was Black Jack and spin the wheel which were run by non student volunteers. Furthermore two students helped at the front desk of the Seniors Centre to answer questions and act as backups if ever needed.

Throughout the event, seniors had fun playing games, having access to food from the kitchen and snacks from the snack table. At around 1:15 PM, an Elvis impersonator went on stage and performed multiple popular songs, and encouraged the seniors to participate and dance with the help of two dancers, creating a lively, happy atmosphere and environment.

By 1:30 PM students returned to St. Michael.
