Abi's Guide for First Time Tubers!

Tubing at Snow Valley was certainly an experience! On March 9, a large group of STM students rolled up to snow valley to try tubing for the very first time. Based on my experience, here's a list of Do’s and Don’ts for those who dare to venture to the mountains next winter!

Do: Listen to all rules listed by the lovely Snow Valley staff. Keep your fitted helmet on at all times, maintain proper posture when tubing and be polite! Remember that trips can only happen for as long as we are good guests!

Don’t: Leave your pockets unzipped. Snow Valley has this real cool ticket scanner system, and their scanners can even work through pockets. But they only work so long as you have your ticket. It’s not just tickets either - one of my friends' phones slipped out of their pockets when we were walking up!

Do: Make sure you check the weather beforehand. God was clearly on our side when we came to the mountains, as it proved to be a mild day. So mild in fact that I had to remove two of the three layers I was wearing! I’d definitely recommend another tubing trip if March of 2027 proves to be as mild as this year.

Don’t: Go alone! Some of the mountains have the option for 6 tubers to go down at the same time! That’s not to say tubing alone isn’t also really fun but don’t be shy to join up with some other groups! Trust me, it’s much less scary when you’re all screaming together

Do: Expect a lot of walking. Walking in lines, walking up parts of the mountain. That said they do have a nice lift system to take you up part of the way but still. To think someone can do all that walking for just thirty seconds of fun. Just proves how fun tubing is for me to consider it worth it.

Don’t: Skip on the slushies their tuck shop has for sale! Are they pricey? Yes. Are they good? Yes. Pick your battles.

Do: Have fun! Take pictures, eat snacks, make friends and enjoy a well deserved day of adventure and new experiences.

After this trip, I’m left hoping that this trip will become a new Saint Mike’s winter tradition.
